If you are a private tenant, the Scottish Government's Warmer Homes Scotland scheme may fund energy efficiency measures in your home.
Since Warmer Homes Scotland was launched, 8 out of 10 who have qualified have received completely free energy efficiency measures, with most receiving measures valued at over £4,000. Those who have qualified for the scheme have saved an average of £350 per year on their energy bills.
However, the Warmer Homes Scotland scheme will not fund measures which private landlords themselves are legally responsible for under the Scottish Government's statutory repairing standard which is defined in The Housing (Scotland) Act 2006.
Please phone Home Energy Scotland on 0808 808 2282 to check if you qualify for this.
This short personalised survey will check how energy efficient your home is and suggest practical changes and improvements. It can help you save money by reducing the amount of energy you use in your home. The survey can be done over the phone and you will be sent a 6 page personalised report by post. This will give a current and potential rating, as well as a short, medium and long-term action plan for improving the energy performance of your home.
Alternatively, you can complete the survey online .
Many people miss out on money they are entitled to from benefits and tax credits - just because they don't know it's there. Home Energy Scotland can help find out if this applies to you. Some people discover they can get as much as £1,500 extra per year.
Energy suppliers also offer some people help towards their energy bills. Home Energy Scotland can advise about any discounts that may be available to help you pay less for the energy you use. In particular, they can apply for the Warm Home Discount, which is a UK Government scheme offering £140 of free electricity to vulnerable, low income households.
More information can be found on our Warm Home Discount page.
Some energy companies operate schemes to fit heating and insulation to households which meet certain criteria. These schemes tend to be funded by the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), a UK Government programme which gets the larger energy utilities to install energy efficiency measures in homes. It is worth contacting your supplier to ask about this.
Local councils operate area-based schemes on behalf of the Scottish Government to install energy efficiency measures to householders in defined communities. These schemes may benefit homeowners, private tenants, local authority tenants and housing association tenants. Area-based schemes often operate in areas of high social deprivation or where housing is constructed in non-traditional ways and might be hard to heat.
For 2017/18 our area-based scheme focuses on installing external wall insulation on houses of a non-traditional construction in specified streets across Clacknmannanshire, please refer to our web page via the link provided.
