A Chance to Shine at Clackmannanshire Awards

Clackmannanshire Awards take place on Thursday 25th February at Alva Academy.

Once again, the gala awards ceremony will be a joint event with Clackmannanshire Arts Forum, Clackmannanshire Sports Council and the Council's Education Services with four different categories of award - Citizen of the Year, Sports Council Awards, Arts Forum Awards and the Enterprise in Education Award.

And for the second time a selection of local successful Duke of Edinburgh achievers will be acknowledged as part of the ceremony.

The Sports Council Awards recognise outstanding ability, dedication and achievement in sport over the past year.

The nominees for Junior Sports Personality of the Year are: Robyn Gilchrist, Shane Currie, Reece Dall, Sammi Tasker, Hannah Eccles, Brian Harper, Kathryn Gillespie, Scott Green, Liam Park and Meggan Dawson-Farrell.

The nominees for Senior Sports Personality of the Year are: Stuart Greig, Grant Gilchrist, Joanne Eccles and Douglas Duffin.

The nominees for Team of the Year are: Alloa All Stars Gymnastics Team, Clackmannanshire Special Olympic Team, Forth Valley Special Olympic Boccia Team, Tullibody Wrestling Team, Wee County Vaulters Junior Team, A.C. Mannan, Tullibody Community Football Club, Hillfoots Community Football Club and the Under 16 Clacks Colts Rugby Team.

The nominees for School Team of the Year are: Alloa Academy Swimmers, Muckhart Cross Country Team, Craigbank Primary Level 2 Gymnastics, Deerpark Primary Cross Country Team, Craigbank Primary Level 1 Gymnastics, Clackmannan Primary Cross Country Team, Alva Academy Gymnastics Team, Claremont Primary Swim Team and Alva Academy Senior Rugby Team.

The nominees for Triumph over Adversity are: Lee Duncan, Claire Robertson, John MacAloney, Connor Whannel and Meggan Dawson-Farrell.

The nominees for Services to Sport are: Colin McLaren and Alan Harper, William McCubbin, David Reynolds, Chris Beetham and Ronnie McMillan.

The nominees for Coach of the Year are: William Gardiner, Linda Lucey, Roy Lennon, Robyn Cilchrist, Iain Nicholson, Jim Shaw, Mike Power and Grant Bonar.

Clackmannanshire Arts Forum uses the award ceremony to pay tribute to people who have enhanced the lives of others by providing guidance, talent and expertise in all forms of arts.

Awards will be given in the four categories of: Visual / Craft Award; Performing Arts Award; Music and Outstanding Contribution to the Arts.

The nominees are: Playground Mural at St Serf's Primary School; digital media artist Kenny Bean; female barbershop singers Hillfoots Harmony; dancer Yasmin Burns; dancer Stephanie Ewing; musician Josh Currie; Hillfoots Music for Youth and Youth Academy Singers; and drum major Graham Winters.

The Provost's Award recognises school / business partnerships. This category is sponsored by Determined to Succeed which aims to better prepare young people for the world of work by offering them experiences in enterprise while at school.

The nominations are: St John's Primary School / Rhymemaker; Alva Academy / BBC Radio Scotland; Strathdevon Primary School / Dollarbeg Farm; Primary School Support Service / Alloa Athletic Football Club; Deerpark Primary School / Do-Be-It; Clackmannan Primary School / El Shaddai Charitable Trust.

There were a record six Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Awards last year in Clackmannanshire: Ashleigh McRobbie, Andrew Greenhill, Alastair Stirling, Graeme Stirling and Robert Stirling and Kate McFarlane who will also attend the glittering event.
