During the last fortnight over 60 children from Primary 5 to First Year have been taking part in their very own Mini Olympics competition thanks to The Big Lottery Fund and Clackmannanshire Council's Active Schools Team.

The two week event was free to all children as it was funded through The Big Lottery as part of a three-year project to provide opportunities for children to be physically active during the school holidays.

For the second year running three primary schools played host to a week of coaching in 10 different Olympic sports including basketball, fencing, volleyball, badminton, tennis and table-tennis.  Abercromby, Sunnyside and Tillicoultry Primaries were the venues as 75 hours of coaching was delivered to all the participants. Over 12 specialist coaches and Active School staff toured the three venues from 25th-29th July ensuring that the children were given the basic skills in all the sports.

The following week (1st-5th August) saw the children compete in the 10 sports at Tulligarth Leisure Complex. From the first basketball event on Monday morning to the fencing event on Friday afternoon competition was fierce with every game, match and medal being won only after each child giving their all.

After every event medals were presented to the first, second and third placed individuals or teams. The medal winners were as follows:

It is great to see so many youngsters take part in not only sports that they love but to try new sports as well."
