The people of Clackmannanshire are being asked to show their support for the extraordinary men and women in the county who have made an outstanding contribution to society by serving in the armed forces.
Local veterans and cadets will parade through Alloa Town Centre led by Dollar Academy Pipes and Drums to mark Armed Forces Day on Friday 29th May. The cadets are from Dollar Academy Combined Cadet Force and the (Alloa) Squadron Air Training Corps.
They will be joined by members of Clackmannanshire District Scouts.
The parade starts in Drysdale Street, Alloa, at 10.15am and goes to Alloa Town Hall where local people are invited to gather at 10.25am. They will be joined by local school children, where a flag raising ceremony will take place. The flag will be raised by the Lord Lieutenant’s cadets assisted by the Lord-Lieutenant, Lt Col (Retd) Johnny Stewart and Provost Donald Balisllie.
Local organisations including The Royal Regiment of Scotland, Wee County Veterans, Blind Veterans UK, SSAFA, Highland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association the Armed Forces’ charity, and Clackmannanshire District Scouts will be holding displays and stalls in the car park behind the town hall.
Clackmannanshire is one of hundreds of councils across the country taking part in official celebrations in honour of our Armed Forces.
Lord-Lieutenant, Lt Col (Retd) Johnny Stewart said: "I look forward to seeing a large turnout at our Armed Forces Day outside the Town Hall in Alloa. It is a special day when we can watch and thank our veterans and talk to our cadets who are so much part of our future.”
Provost Donald Balsillie said: “This is an important event to allow the people of Clackmannanshire to show our support to the men and women who serve and have served in our Armed Forces.
“It is also an opportunity to see and thank our Reserve and Cadet services as well as local youth groups for the activities they are involved in locally.”
