Clackmannanshire residents are being invited to have a say on a range of officer proposals as part of the Council’s budget setting process for 2026-27.
Clackmannanshire Council, like all councils, is facing further rising costs, reducing budgets and increased demand for services.
We do not know what our settlement figure from the Scottish Government is for 2026-27.
But in 2025-26 we had a budget of £174.7million to invest in services for the people of Clackmannanshire.
We invested that funding in over 700 public services including education, social care, roads and transport, economic development, housing, planning, environmental protection and waste.
This funding, which comes from the Scottish Government (83%) and council tax (17%), is also used to provide services such as waste collection and recycling and to maintain our roads, footpaths and open spaces such as parks.
This year we face a likely budget gap of £7.340m in 2026/27 and in five years, it could be £19.132m.
Council Leader Ellen Forson said: “We have a legal duty to balance our budget, which means making sure our spending does not exceed the resources we have. I know this comes at a time when many families and individuals are already feeling the strain, and I want to acknowledge how difficult that is.
“Over the past few years, we’ve done everything we can to make savings while continuing to support our communities, and I’m grateful for the understanding people have shown. Even with those efforts, we are still facing a shortfall, and that means we will need to make some very challenging decisions.
“That’s why it would mean so much to us if residents could take a few minutes to complete the online survey. Hearing your views helps us understand what matters most to you and ensures your voice is part of the conversation before any decisions are made.
“Please do share your thoughts if you can — every response truly helps.”
Despite these significant financial challenges, the Council is determined to transform the local economy, tackle poverty and inequality and drive long term sustainable change, ensuring financial sustainability, through our Be the Future programme.
The consultation is available online now until 11.59pm on Sunday, 18 January 2026, and can be accessed via our website.
