Redevelopment works are beginning onsite at the travelling persons site at Westhaugh, near Alva.
The completed project will result in a site which meets modern, energy efficient standards, as well as the cultural needs of residents. The site is expected to be re-opened for residents during May 2026.
Work taking place includes demolishing existing structures and building new accommodation for up to 16 households, provide safe storage for gas, improved landscaping and pitch layouts, new chemical toilet disposal facilities and a safe and secure playground area.
Councillor Jane McTaggart, Depute Spokesperson for Place, said: “I am very pleased that work is beginning onsite to deliver this important Council project.
“Plans for this much improved site have been developed alongside the Gypsy Traveller community, and will meet their needs providing modern, efficient and attractive facilities for all residents.
“I am grateful for the understanding of the Westhaugh community during the unavoidable delays to this project, and I pleased that the time when the families can all be together again is within sight.”
The project was paused last year, when the original building contractor appointed by Hubco East Central Scotland went into administration. A new contract for completion of the works was then agreed, and Ogilvie was appointed as the new contractor.
