Alloa Academy was visited by an inspection team from Education Scotland in January.

The inspection report, which was published today (April 23), highlighted a number of strengths in the school’s work.

The school was also given a ‘very good’ rating in the ‘ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion’ quality indicator, with the close partnership staff have built with families and their young people dubbed a key strength.

Other strengths included:

  • The headteacher provides effective leadership in motivating and empowering staff at all levels to improve learners’ experiences.
  • There is a calm and supportive learning environment throughout the school, built on strong and mutually respectful relationships between staff and young people.
  • There is strong commitment to support young people who are care experienced.

The school was praised for its enthusiastic and motivated staff, while its strong leadership was also highlighted.

The report stated that the head teacher is ‘driving forward change relentlessly and has a collaborative and coherent approach to school improvement’.

Headteacher Steven McGuckin said: “I am delighted with many positives that have been highlighted in this report.

“I am incredibly grateful to all members of the Alloa Academy community for working together to achieve this result.

“We will keep working together to ensure our pupils continue to thrive and our school goes from strength to strength.”

Councillor Graham Lindsay, education spokesperson, said: “There is much to be proud of in this inspection report and I am particularly pleased to see the school’s work on wellbeing and inclusion, the nurturing support offered to families and the effective leadership being singled out for praise.

“I look forward to working in partnership on the journey ahead, making sure each and every young person at Alloa Academy fulfils their potential.”
