Clackmannanshire's Council's Sport & Active Living Leadership and Governance group met earlier this month to review the Clackmannanshire Sport and Active Living Framework – our ten-year plan, created in 2018 to drive the direction of sport, physical activity, and leisure across the county.

At the meeting the group were presented with the latest updates on provision of sport and physical activity within our local community through an impressive network of providers, venues, and programmes. An update on the progress of the Wellbeing Hub and Lochies School project was front and centre of the meeting. With this project in mind, the group – which is made of internal and external partners from the community, NHS Scotland, sportscotland, the third sector, further education partners and disability sport agreed that with this project now firmly in our sights, the time is right to complete a more comprehensive review of the framework to ensure it continues to support the realisation of the vision for Clackmannanshire as a place where everyone can get out, get going and enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of being active.

Outgoing chair, Councillor Graham Lindsay, spokesperson for Education, said: “The session underlined the successes our community continues to achieve around sport and active living. For instance, at the Council meeting on 19 December funding was agreed as part of the Place Based Investment programme to support the development of new community synthetic pitches at Tullibody and Hawkhill and a cycling pump track in Clackmannan. I hand over the chair position to my colleague, Councillor Scott Harrison at such an exciting time for Clackmannanshire – the wider sport, physical activity and active living network continues to flourish across the county. A recent audit of provision showed over 550 providers, places, and programmes available for residents to be active and support their wellbeing – and a dedicated website will signpost residents to these existing opportunities happening day in day out.”

Councillor Scott Harrison, spokesperson for Sports, Leisure and Active Living, said: “Looking ahead to 2023 and beyond, it’s clear that we are entering a hugely exciting phase for sport and active living in Clackmannanshire. The meeting reinforced the significant progress we have made as we moved through Covid recovery. Our sights are firmly fixed on keeping the momentum and building on the excellent sport, active living and wellbeing opportunities on offer across Clackmannanshire on a daily basis. The creation of the Wellbeing Hub and new Lochies School will be a critical addition to this. To help us capitalise on this opportunity, it is right that we review our Sport and Active Living Framework to ensure it continues to support our ambitions and direction of travel for sport, active living and wellbeing for our county.”
