Construction work on the Alloa skate park has begun.

The new park is being built adjacent to the Bowmar Centre and the construction work is being carried out by Bendcrete Ltd.

The project has been awarded up to a maximum of £100,000 from the Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund.

Education, Sport and Leisure Convener Ellen Forson said: "The Alloa skate park project is about creating a fantastic and fun skate park for local young people. The establishment of a skate park in Sauchie last year has been very popular with young people and there is evidence of significant demand for a similar facility elsewhere in the county."

Community group Clackmannanshire Youth Voice continue to play a key role in the project.

"This project fits with the objectives of Making Clackmannanshire Better. It will provide a safe and attractive place for young people to gather, while also promoting a healthy and active lifestyle," added Councillor Forson.

The Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund is part of the Scottish Government's Commonwealth Games Legacy 2014 programme, which will give communities across Scotland more and better places to be active, and is managed by sportscotland, the National Agency for Sport. Stewart Harris, Chief Executive, sportscotland said: "We are delighted to award up to £100,000 from the Active Places Fund to this great initiative to create a skate park in Alloa.
"sportscotland is committed to providing more and better opportunities for people to take part in sport and physical activity and we view this project as a key part of that commitment. Skate parks are hugely popular, providing access to a wide range of fun sporting activities at every level so I'm sure it will be a fantastic addition to the local community."

Work on the skate park will be finished in June. The park will be for all ages and abilities and all types of wheel sports.
