Clackmannanshire and Stirling Councils have agreed to take forward work which will see the potential benefits of shared services being maximised.

Both councils considered reports at their respective meetings on 26th June which recognised that some good progress has been made and highlighted some factors hindering further progress.

Clackmannanshire Council agreed to share education and social services with Stirling Council in December 2010. The meetings heard that in order to take full advantage of the opportunities afforded by sharing arrangements there is recognition that some changes to the current operations would be beneficial.

Both Councils have agreed to commission a business case on the option of full lead authority - the model which appears to offer the greatest benefits in terms of maximising outcomes while retaining independent political governance.

Clackmannanshire Council Leader Gary Womersley said: "This agreement means that the potential benefits of shared services can be fully maximised through closer joint working. Staff and trade unions will be engaged in the process and will be consulted on proposals which affect them."
