A Staffordshire bull terrier from Alloa has won a string of agility and obedience awards, after regularly and successfully attending Clackmannanshire Council's Dog Obedience Training Classes.
Owner Karen Penman is delighted with the success of the classes and the awards her dog "Diesel" has won since attending them.
The classes are organised and run by Eric Ferguson, Clackmannanshire Council's Animal Welfare Officer.
Councillor Donald Balsillie, Convener of the Council's Enterprise and Environment Committee, said: "I am delighted by the success achieved by Karen's dog, which shows the tremendous benefits of the Council's classes to the community as a whole. It is all about promoting responsible dog ownership."
Classes take place in Cochrane Hall, West Stirling Street, Alva, for all levels of dogs every Tuesday evening, from 7.30pm until 10pm. Dog owners are asked to bring along some dog treats / a toy, wear soft shoes and don't forget a sense of humour. The cost is £5 for the first night and £4 per week after that.
Training is very important in modifying dog behaviour. Attending a class as early as possible will allow young dogs and puppies to socialise and learn obedience skills to allow them take part in general domestic life.
Being a responsible dog owner and ensuring your dog is trained and able to mix well with other dogs may help prevent the possibility of actions being taken you against in terms of 'The Control of Dogs (Scotland) Act 2010'.
This Act gives Council Officers the power to impose measures by means of a Dog Control Notice on the owner, or the person in charge of a dog, if it is considered that any other person or animal has become alarmed or apprehensive due to the dog's behaviour.
