Six people have been selected as finalists to become the first ever Clackmannanshire Young Citizen of the Year.

In the inaugural year of the Award, the winner to be announced at a glittering occasion at Alloa Town Hall on 21st February, the six finalists are: Erin McNeil, Emma Wilson, Charlie Crawford, Jordan Beresford, Ryan Taylor and Kayleigh Young.

Provost Tina Murphy said: "This is our first year to run this Award and the quality of the nominations were very high indeed. It made judging both a pleasure and also very difficult."

Erin McNeil, since her own personal horrific experience in surviving a terrible fire has led to her using her time in raising over £65,000 for the local fire service. That led her to being one of the nominees in last year's Citizen of the Year.

Emma Wilson, from Alva, is already a winner of a major award, nominated for her work with Alva Toddlers Group. She picked up the Pollock Memorial Trophy presented to her by TV's Dr Hilary Jones. This was in recognition for all her work with the Toddlers Group and her help and work with other new volunteers.

Charlie Crawford, from Alva, has run marathons to raise funds for motor neuron disease and has completed a coaching certificate to help and encourage other children into sport. His attitude to all that life has thrown at him shows he is an outstanding candidate.

Jordan Beresford, from Alloa, is an active member of youth groups and has been involved in volunteering for the past six years. He recently gained one of the highest Saltire Awards for his work involving many youth projects and has contributed over 200 hours service to the community.

Ryan Taylor, from Alloa, has been volunteering over seven years in youth clubs and helps with other events in the community. He also plays the organ in his local church and uses his musical talents to entertain others in the community. He spends much of his spare time as a committee member at the Hawkhill Centre, where his input is invaluable on many levels.

Kayleigh Young, also from Alva, has been nominated for her commitment, dedication and engagement with Clackmannanshire's Young Parent Project. She encourages others to achieve what she herself has managed to do, using her experience to help others.
