Lornshill Academy will be in the pink on Friday, 22nd, June when they hold a 'Race for Life' event to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Head Teacher, Peter Allan said: "It was decided to hold this event as we saw "Race for Life" as a powerful, but fun, way of showing the school's sympathy and support for those within the Lornshill community who have been affected by this illness ."

As part of what will be a major fund raising day at the school, the pupils are having a non uniform day where they are being asked to dress in pink for £1.

Mr Allan added: "Through Tutorial activities our pupils have learned that pink is the colour that represents breast cancer so everyone is being given the chance to buy pink wrist bands at £1 and rings for 50p and buy raffle tickets at 50p all to help raise extra money for the charity."

Pupils and teachers will have the choice to either run or walk the 5k route and on completion of this they will be able to browse the fundraising stalls and visit the BBQ and Ice Cream van to help further the funds for this worthy cause.

Education, Sport and Leisure Committee Convenor, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: "The pupils and all staff at Lornshill Academy should be commended for organising this exciting event on such a large scale and for such a worthwhile cause. I am sure that with everyone's support, including that of the great number of local businesses, who have come on board to help out, they will raise a fabulous amount of money for Cancer Research UK".

The event has been supported by a number of local businesses who have donated prizes for a raffle and other items for the event.
