Alloa and District Round Table's first ever bonfire and fireworks extravaganza went off with a bang, with over 6,000 people turning out to support this eagerly awaited, fun-packed, fundraising evening.

The event took place in Alloa's West End Park, starting at 6pm with live local entertainers including a children's entertainer, DJ Tony Duffy and local band Fever.

In the interlude between DJ Tony and the band - the bonfire was lit - with the guy, which had been constructed by the pupils of St John's Primary School, taking centre stage on the top of the six metre bonfire.

Provost Derek Stewart was charged with starting the main event with the countdown for the firework display.

George Aitkenhead, Alloa Round Table Chairman said: "This firework event exceeded all our expectations with a large number of families turning out and supporting the event. From the feedback I have received, everybody enjoyed the evening and they are looking forward to making this an annual event."

David Westland, Event Manager, added: "It was fantastic to see so many people having fun and enjoying themselves in the West End Park and I would like to thank everybody for coming out to support the event. The planning for next years event has already started! I would also like to thank everyone involved in putting this together: Clackmannanshire Council, the Police and Fire services, Clackmannanshire Alliance as well as all the volunteers from the Round Table and Hillfoots Rugby Club for giving up their time or those who contributing their expertise or equipment to make this event a success."

Depute Provost Harry McLaren said: "The fireworks in Alloa is a great addition to Clackmannanshire's events calendar, providing a safe way to enjoy bonfire night while also raising money for a good cause. I'm delighted that the county hosted such a fun and family friendly night."

The main objective of the bonfire and firework extravaganza was to raise money for the Round Table. In excess of £7000 was raised on the evening - all this money will be used to help local families and local vulnerable individuals.

David added: "Although everybody had fun, the aim of the event was to raise money for local charities."
