Corporal Kevin Mulligan – Funeral - St. Mungo's RC Church

Due to the high numbers of people expected to attend the funeral of Corporal Kevin Mulligan certain traffic management measures will be necessary in the Town Centre.

Mar Street, Mill Street and Bank Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday 29 August 2009 between 10am and 2pm. Parking for the service will not be permitted on these streets. It would be very helpful if residents and businesses could park their cars elsewhere on Saturday, particularly between 10am and 2pm, as the streets will be required for access for funeral cars and to accommodate the anticipated high number of mourners at the funeral.

Parkway, Sunnyside and Parkhead Road will be closed to traffic between 12 noon and 2pm to accommodate the funeral cortege and the large number of mourners who will gather at Sunnyside Cemetery. It would be helpful if residents of these streets were to park their cars elsewhere at the above time.

The funeral cortege will leave Mar Street and travel via Marshill Roundabout and Mar Place. Many of the mourners will walk with the cortege to Sunnyside Cemetery and could take up to 20 minutes to clear this section of the town. Traffic on King Street, Marshill and Tullibody Road will be stopped until the cortege has passed. Unfortunately this will result in delays on the main road network. Everybody involved thanks you all for your patience and respect on this occasion.

For those arriving by car, parking will be available in the town centre car parks and Tesco, Asda and Aldi have generously agreed to accommodate mourners' cars in their car parks.

Provost Derek Stewart said: "On such a sad occasion as this I'm sure everybody will show consideration and patience. Let us all show our respect to Corporal Mulligan and his family and friends. This is a sorrowful day for Clackmannanshire and for everyone who knew Corporal Mulligan."

Given the number of Servicemen and close friends who will be joining the family at the Church, it is likely that there will be little room left in the church for the anticipated large number of mourners. It would be appreciated if you could pay your respects from the roadside. The Service is likely to finish about 12.30 whereupon the funeral cortege will make its way from Mar Street along Parkway to Sunnyside Cemetery.
