The county's rich and beautiful landscape is set to be the inspiration for local artists who sign up for a new drawing and painting course.

Alva painter Donna McGee will be leading the course, which is suitable for beginners and people with some painting/drawing experience.

She said: "My intention is to use our surroundings, and the elements, as inspiration. Clackmannanshire offers a wide range of opportunities for the artist."

The course will last eight weeks with a Wednesday class starting on 8th April and running until 13th May and a Saturday class running from 11th April until 16th May. The classes will last 2 hours from 1.30 - 3.30pm.

During the first six weeks the class will visit locations:

  • Alva Glen
  • Dollar
  • The Woodland Park
  • Gartmorn Dam
  • Tillicoultry

Here students will be encouraged to sketch and make small-scale drawings.

The remaining two weeks will be spent in the studio at Aberdona Gallery. The time in the studio will be spent examining everyone's sketchbooks and developing ideas. The intention is to take these forward into completed paintings and drawings.

Over the period of the course, participants can expect to experiment with composition, colour and scale, develop a personal visual language, develop and understanding of the use of colour, tone and composition and achieve a confident and practical approach to location drawing.

Participants will be required to provide their own material such as a sketchbook and pencil and should wear warm, waterproof clothing.

The course costs £60. To book a place on the course please contact Kathleen O'Neill at koneill@clacks.gov.uk or phone Culture & Community Services at 01259 450000.
