Clackmannanshire Council's Property Contracts staff are celebrating after winning a top national performance award for the second year in a row.

The service was named 'Best Performer' at the annual Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) performance network awards. They were also a finalist in the 'Most Improved' category.

Meanwhile, Land Services were finalists for the first time in the 'Most Improved Performance for Street Cleansing' category.

The title of 'Best Performer' goes to those Councils who have shown outstanding performance in front line services for citizens and have improved on a mixture of cost and quality indicators.

The award was presented to Operations Manager Willie McLaughlin and Support Services Manager Jeanette Pearcy at the Association's awards ceremony held in Blackpool on Thursday 4th December. The event was attended by over 400 delegates from all over Britain and hosted by actress and TV presenter Denise Welch.

Being finalists in the Most Improved Performance for Street Cleansing Category reflects the improvements achieved since the restructuring of the street cleaning service to work more closely with grounds maintenance employees under Land Services Contract Manager Kenny Inglis.

Councillor Eddie Carrick, Sustainability Portfolio Holder, also attended the ceremony in Blackpool. He said: "Staff in Property Contracts and Land Services have worked very hard to improve efficiency and service to our customers. I am delighted at this national recognition for everyone's efforts."

You are invited to send a photographer to Greenfield House at 9.15am on Thursday 18th December when Councillor Carrick will be congratulating the staff involved.

Property Contracts employs around 120 staff, including 11 apprentices, and is based at Kelliebank, Alloa. The staff includes a wide range of tradesmen such as joiners, plumbers, plasterers, roofers, electricians, labourers and glaziers who maintain of the county's council housing, public buildings and schools.

Land contracts are responsible for cleansing and litter control in streets, parks, open spaces and public areas throughout Clackmannanshire. The service employs 22 cleansing staff and is managed alongside the horticultural and landscape maintenance of the Council's open spaces.

Director of Development of Environmental Services Garry Dallas added: "Performance is a top priority for all Council services, ensuring that we get the best value for money for council tax payers."

APSE is a not for profit local government association working with over 250 Councils throughout the UK.
