For the first time two husband and wife teams have been nominated for this year's Citizen of the Year Awards.

The couples are amongst the nine finalists who have been shortlisted from the nominations submitted over the past few weeks.

These unsung heroes will be given the red carpet treatment at a gala awards ceremony at Alloa Town Hall on Thursday 15th November. The evening is a joint awards ceremony with Clackmannanshire Arts Forum, Clackmannanshire Sports Council and the Council's Education Service to celebrate achievements in art, sport and enterprising activities between local businesses and schools over the past year.

The Citizen of the Year finalists were identified by members of the Lord Lieutenant's Trust, including Lord Lieutenant Sheena Cruickshank who has again kindly agreed to sponsor the main Citizen of the Year Award. She will present the 2007 Citizen of the Year, who will be announced on the evening, with their prize.

As well as receiving a certificate, each finalist will also receive a gift voucher for £50 sponsored by Grant Thornton.

Provost Derek Stewart will welcome guests to the ceremony, while Leisure Manager Sheila Bulloch will be Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

Provost Stewart said: "The Clackmannanshire Awards is one of the highlights of my year as Provost, a chance to give the county's unsung heroes the recognition they truly deserve.
