Part of the Arns Roundabout in Alloa, one of the main gateways into Clackmannanshire, has been given a facelift thanks to a joint project between the Council and the local rotary club.

The Council invested £15,000 to landscape the roundabout using the rotary's wheel emblem as the theme for the work. The rotary club supplied the roses at a cost of £1,000.

Councillor Eddie Carrick said: "I'm delighted that we had the rotary's support in landscaping this roundabout. It's important that people entering the Wee County see us at our best. And what better welcome than a beautiful floral display that represents one of the most important clubs in the area."

The landscaping marks the rotary's centenary in 2005 and has been planted with 156 `Heart of Gold' rotary roses. The rose was specially commissioned for the centenary and to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation Charity which carries out humanitarian projects across the globe.

A photocall will take place at the Arns Roundabout tomorrow, Tuesday March 21 at 10am. You are invited to send a photographer.

Ivor Barber, President of the Rotary Club of Alloa said: "Rotary is known the world over, and I am delighted that we now have this beautiful landscaping in this prominent location to raise the profile of the club in Clackmannanshire. The location is perfect and it looks great, but will look even better when the roses are in bloom.

"All of our members are volunteers and we use our funds to help the local area. This will be a lasting floral tribute to the work we do."

Rotary's first emblem was a simple wagon wheel representing civilization and movement. In 1923 the present gear wheel with 24 cogs and six spokes was adopted.
