From September 8 to 16, Scotland will be celebrating National Biodiversity Week.

And Clackmannanshire Biodiversity Partnership will be joining the celebrations with two special events in the Wee County.

Biodiversity or biological diversity, is defined as the variety of all living things. This includes all sizes of animals and plants, their genetic diversity and habitats. It relates to a wide range of environmental issues that includes large projects like the Clackmannanshire Countryside Rivers Project right down to the wee beasties of small gardens.

The following two events promise fun and learning for everyone: 8th September. Biodiversity Tales & Trails. Come out and enjoy a variety of walks and self-led trails as you learn about the aquatic and woodland habitats surrounding Gartmorn Dam. Countryside Rangers, Forest Enterprises and the Forth Fishery Foundation will all give wee chats about a wide variety of topics. Everything from fish and wildlife to historical land use and forests will be covered. Families will enjoy a leisurely self-led walk that will follow a series of fun station points around the Dam. Whereas for those who would like more of a hike, a guided walk will also be available. Everyone is welcome but very small children may find the walks a bit long.Meet at the Gartmorn Dam Visitor Centre at 10am, 8th September. The walk and self-led trail will arrive at the east end of the Dam where there will be a fish survey demonstration from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Bring waterproofs and stout footwear. We also recommend bringing a packed lunch. The event is free!

If you are interested in going on the guided walk, please contact Speirs Centre 01259 213131 as pre-booking is required. For more information please contact Lynn Campbell or the Ranger Service 01259 450000.
