A group of Clackmannanshire school pupils presented a short drama at the re-launch of a strategy against racist attacks and harassment.

The Drama Group from the Secondary School Support Service were invited to present a piece of work at the 6th RAHMAS strategy launch, which was held at Falkirk Municipal Chambers on Wednesday 9th November.

The short drama promoted an anti racism perspective by showing how easy it can be to pre-judge a situation and the people within it.

A group of friends watch at the window of a newly occupied

house in their neighbourhood.

They are immediately suspicious when they see shadows of 'strange' goings on in the window that they can't explain …  they assume the worst.

The RAHMAS - Racist Attacks and Harassment Multi-Agency Strategy - partnership is opposed to racism. Clackmannanshire Council is one of 10 partners who are committed to taking all steps within their power to eliminate discrimination and racial attacks and harassment and to promote good relationships between and towards minority ethnic communities.

Council leader Margaret Paterson attended the re-launch on behalf of Clackmannanshire Council. She said: "Everyone has the right to be treated fairly and with respect and the promotion of racial equality is central to the way that Clackmannanshire Council works.

"RAHMAS has made significant progress since it was established in 1993, but we all recognise that there are challenges ahead. The 6th edition of the strategy will allow the partnership to meet those challenges and contribute towards a safer society for all."

One of the strategy's most recent achievements has been under the banner of Safer Businesses which aimed to reduce crime and fear of crime suffered by business owners from the minority ethnic community. Advice and support was provided including safety and security surveys, personal safety advice and the use of CCTV equipment.
