The demolition of 30 Tullibody flats, as part of the regeneration of the area, was given the go ahead at Thursday's meeting of the Council.

The long block at 55-99 Newmills will be pulled down in the near future and follows the successful demolition of 103-161 Newmills earlier this year.

The two sites will be replaced with new affordable housing to meet local needs in conjunction with Ochil View Housing Association, as part of wider regeneration plans for the area.

Councillor Sam Ovens, inclusion and regeneration portfolio holder, said: "I am delighted that the final Newmills long block is coming down because they have been a blight on this area for too long. These properties are amongst the Council's lowest demand stock and this is a welcome opportunity to redevelop the sites while providing much needed, quality, affordable housing.

"I really believe that this is part of the wider regeneration of parts of Tullibody and I am looking forward to working with Ochil View and local tenants' representatives on the new plans for the site."

The current tenants will now be contacted individually by housing staff to discuss compensation and the timetable for re-housing arrangements.

Council will provide alternative accommodation for these tenants as a priority with a view to making a further decision on a second phase of demolition and redevelopment early in 2005/06.

A further report on the transfer of the site to Ochil View Housing Association will come to the Council's December meeting.
