Children took part in a series of games to build up navigation skills and then navigated their way around an orienteering course of about a mile. The event was organised by the Sports Development team from Clackmannanshire Council with help from Forth Valley Orienteers, Breathing Space Outdoors and the Outdoor Education Worker from Children and Youth Services.
Lynne Glen, Senior Sport Development Officer said:" We had a beautiful day for the event and we saw lots of children enjoying the activities. Many of the children tried really hard and the fastest times were under 10 minutes. This is excellent as children were not only running over rough terrain but also reading a map and stopping at controls to mark on their maps evidence they had been to the correct place."
Fran Loots of Breathing Space Outdoors remarked: "Clackmannanshire Council has been quick to realise the benefits of children orienteering, as not only does it encourage them to get fit outdoors but it encourages them to learn skills that they can use through out their lives."
The fastest times of the day are listed below, but all the children put a lot of effort in and many went around the course more than once.
