We all enjoy eating out. And whether it's soup and a sandwich or a four course meal, we all want to be confident that the highest level of care has been taken in the preparation of the food we eat.

New laws, which come into force on 1st January 2006, mean that all food businesses must have a written food safety management plan and Clackmannanshire Council are offering local businesses help to comply.

The Council is taking part in a nationwide project called Cook Safe which will provide training and practical help to a large number of food businesses.

John Stothard, Environmental Health Team Leader, said: "Some companies are already well on the way to meeting the new requirements and do not need any help from us. But we know that the majority of food businesses will find the changes quite challenging and will need help."

Thanks to a grant from the Scottish Food Standards Agency, the Council is able to offer a free one-day training programme with places available for 80 people. Letters inviting local food businesses to take up these places are being posted this week.

Mr Stothard added: "All local food businesses from hotels and pubs serving food to coffee shops and canteens will have to comply with the laws and we are sure that participating in the Cook Safe programme will bring about a 'win win' situation for catering businesses and the environmental health service."
