Tullibody residents have had a long wait - but 50 years after it was first suggested, a by-pass road for the village is finally about to open.

Clackmannanshire Council has invested £1.345 million in the project, which has taken around six months to complete.

Councillor Eddie Carrick, Convener of the Enterprise and Environment Committee is delighted to see the road completed. He said:"This is fantastic news for the people of Tullibody but also for Clackmannanshire in general. A by-pass for Tullibody was first suggested in 1955 and I'm delighted we have been able to make it happen.

"As a Tullibody councillor and someone who often drives through the village, I know only too well the traffic problems drivers and residents face. This new road will alleviate those problems and will also make a huge impact on the main Hillfoots road which struggles with heavy traffic, particularly around the morning and tea time rush hours.

"This is good news for local residents and commuters as well as for local businesses who have campaigned for the by-pass over the years. It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of Council officers and my fellow Tullibody members, George Matchett and Brian Fearon, that it is finally a reality."

You are invited to attend the official opening of Tullibody by-pass on Wednesday 9th February at 10.30am.

Children from the local schools and nursery, waved off by Councillor Carrick, will be the first to drive along the road, travelling in style in a 1937 Rover 14, courtesy of Sterling MotorMania.

This will be followed by refreshments in St Serf's Primary gym hall.

Work on the road was carried out by local company Marshall Construction, who won the contract after stiff competition from four other contractors.

Gordon Stewart, Head of Property Services said: "The idea of a Tullibody by-pass was first mentioned in the 1955 County Development Plan, 50 years ago. We are sure that this new road will make a great deal of difference to traffic flow in Clackmannanshire. It offers people in the Hillfoots an alternative route towards Stirling, and vice versa, mainly by using the B9140 road to Fishcross.

"Tullibody cross is also an increasingly busy junction, especially with the level of new housing development going on in the area, so the by-pass will make a marked improvement."

The Council will be carrying out improvement work on the B9140 road to Fishcross within the next three years.
