The Council is to extend free school meals provision.

At a meeting earlier today Councillors agreed that free meals should be extended to include all children who are ’looked after at home’ or by kinship carers.

This demonstrates the Council's commitment to keeping the Promise and to supporting families through the cost of living crisis.

Around 1700 pupils are currently entitled to free school meals and this new extension will include an extra  134 youngsters.

Councillor Graham Lindsay, education spokesperson, said: “We are determined to help as many of our families as we can and this extra provision also aligns with our commitment to keep The Promise and tackle poverty.

“I am delighted that our provision of entitlement to free school meals provision has been extended in this way which will be a welcome boost to our care experienced community.”
