St Serf’s Early Learning and Childcare Centre has received a glowing report after a recent visit by the Care Inspectorate.

The ELC, which operates from a separate building close to St Serf’s Primary in Tullibody, was visited by an inspector on Monday 27 February 2023.

The inspector evaluated four key areas at St Serf’s as ‘very good’ which is the second highest standard on the Care Inspectorate six-point scale.

These were:

• Care, play and learning

• Setting

• Leadership

• Staff team

The key messages from the unannounced inspection were:

• Children were confident and had fun

• Children had free flow access to the outdoor area

• Children experienced kind, nurturing approaches to their care

• Staff communicated and worked well together

• Planning approaches were child centred and responsive to children's interests

The report stated that significant strengths were found in aspects of the care provided and these supported positive outcomes for children.

The inspector found that due to the nurturing and care the children received they were confident and happy.

The report stated that staff had developed positive relationships with children and were quick to respond to children's needs and requests, and supported them appropriately. This meant that children felt valued and respected as individuals as their needs were being met.

Staff worked well together and met regularly to share observations of children's play and learning, and to discuss possible next steps.

Children enjoyed a clean, organised setting that was well-maintained. Particular praise was given to the cosy and softly-lit welcome area and the carefully considered play area and outdoor space.

Children also benefitted from a staff team who had a range of skills, knowledge and experience.

Education spokesperson, Councillor Graham Lindsay said: “This is a wonderful report which, once again, demonstrates the high quality early learning and childcare that is provided in Clackmannanshire.

“Staff at St Serf’s are clearly committed to delivering a quality service for children and families.

“I’d like to pass on my sincere congratulations to everyone involved on this amazing report. You are working really hard to give the children who attend St Serf’s the very best start in life.”
