Banchory ELC has been praised by the Care Inspectorate following a recent unannounced inspection.

The inspection took place in September and the inspection report has now been published. The purpose of the inspection was to evaluate how well children are being supported during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Care Inspectorate evaluated the service based on two key areas that are vital to the support and wellbeing of children experiencing care during the pandemic.
Banchory ELC received Grade 5 ratings (Very Good) for:

•    Quality of care and support
•    Quality of management and leadership

The inspection report notes that children were curious, happy and achieving; they were able to access appropriate levels of challenge. Educators consistently encouraged children’s thinking through effective questioning and involvement in their play. This positively contributed to children’s levels of engagement and enjoyment.

Inspectors found that effective partnerships with parents and other agencies contributed to a shared approach to supporting children’s needs. They found that this shared approach resulted in realistic and specific targets and strategies for children. Children enjoyed consistency in their care which in turn supported positive progress.

In relation to management and leadership, inspectors found that effective leadership is contributing to a positive ethos at Banchory ELC.  Staff feel well supported and are  given specific responsibilities. This is building leadership at all levels. Honest, open and respectful relationships are providing a happy environment for children.

Education Spokesperson Councillor Graham Lindsay said: "The findings of this Care Inspectorate report are cause for pride in our early learning centres and our dedicated ELC staff who are creating a warm and nurturing environment for our young people. This is a fantastic report and I’d like to congratulate everybody concerned.”
