After a year’s delay due to the pandemic, the regular elections of Clackmannanshire’s community councils are taking place this year.

In regular elections, places on all nine of Clackmannanshire's community councils are available to be filled. They are: Alloa with 16 vacancies; Alva, Clackmannan, Dollar, Menstrie, Sauchie & Fishcross, Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton & Devonside and Tullibody Cambus & Glenochil each with 14 vacancies; and Muckhart with 12 vacancies.

Local people are urged to use their electoral power to choose directly who represents them at community level and to stand for election themselves.

The community council election process is open and accessible to every elector in the area from all walks of life, a range of ages and backgrounds. A community council represents a broad spectrum of the community so everyone who has something to contribute is encouraged to consider taking on the community councillor role.

Nominations are the start of the elections process. Nomination forms are available from Clackmannanshire Council’s website. They need a nominee, a proposer and a seconder.  Anyone who is 16 or over and who appears on our electoral roll in the Community Council area can stand, propose or second.

Provost Tina Murphy, acknowledged the difficulties community councils faced because of the delay to their election schedule. She said: “Elections are extremely important to community councils and our community councils are keen to fill their membership. They derive strength from the support of local people and in return give back to their communities through the role they fulfil representing the interests of the whole area. It is times of severe pressure when we really see how important community groups such as community councils are. They will continue to play an active role in the recovery of Clackmannanshire’s communities as we gradually resume normal activities."

Notices about forthcoming community council elections are going up at key community locations throughout Clackmannanshire inviting residents to make nominations to their community councils.  Clackmannanshire Council wishes to remind potential candidates to take the time to think about Covid-19 safeguards and to ensure that they are following current Scottish Government guidance when contacting proposers and seconders. Nomination papers can be delivered to Kilncraigs or sent by post. More information will be available on Clackmannanshire Council website.

Closing date for nominations is 4pm on Thursday 2nd September 2021. For further information or to obtain a nomination pack, please contact: the Elections Office, Clackmannanshire Council tel: 01259 452266 or email: elections@clacks.gov.uk  or see our website.
