Public Satisfaction with Road Condition Improves

Clackmannanshire Council has been awarded top place in Scotland in a national survey measuring satisfaction with local highways and transport.

The results of the National Highways & Transport Public Satisfaction survey released recently show that Clackmannanshire resident's satisfaction with road condition is improving, up by 3.4% on last year. Satisfaction levels with the speed of repair (+5.4%) and quality of repair (+6.5%) have also improved.

Overall Clackmannanshire was ranked second best performing of the 78 UK authorities who took part in the survey and the top ranked Scottish authority. The Council is ranked in the top quartile for 19 of the 26 performance indicators reported. Other notable improvements were in satisfaction on all elements of road safety and on the provision of cycle routes and facilities.

As a result special mention was made of Clackmannanshire Council at the recent annual NHT Conference.

While increased levels of public satisfaction has been noted in many areas, the Council recognises that there is much more improvement required.

Councillor Donald Balsillie, Enterprise and Environment Convener, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Clackmannanshire residents have responded so positively to this assessment of transport services in the area. The high satisfaction rate is impressive and we are also happy to be judged as being the best transport authority as a result, having the highest overall public satisfaction of any participating council in Scotland, and scores in the top five overall scores for four themes.

"This Council has invested heavily in our roads to, with an additional £1.5million earmarked for road improvements in this year's budget alone."

3300 questionnaires were issued by IPSOS MORI, with 691 residents submitting responses (return rate 20.9%).
