Council Tax Payers can expect to pay an extra 92p a week on current council tax rates from April this year (based on band D homes). This represents an increase of 4.8% on the previous year.
This means that people living in a Band D rated house will pay £1,043 compared to the current level of £995 - an annual increase of £48.
Council Leader Margaret Paterson said: "Today's council tax increase has been necessary to maintain service provision and bring in a balanced budget. An increase of 4.8% is below the Scottish average at a time when the increase in our grant is also very much below the Scottish average.
"This is a prudent budget. It will strengthen key service areas and begin to tackle underlying problems to provide a solid platform for future progress."
Without making savings, the council's expenditure for the year ahead could have been £82,125million while its income - from Government allocations and current council tax levels - is just under £80 million.
£800,000 will now be brought in by increasing the council tax level by 4.8% - while savings of over £1.5million will be made. These two figures combined will allow the Council to continue delivering services to local people with a budget of just over £80.5 million.
Scottish Water has increased the water and sewerage charges by 5.15%.
