Council staff have benefitted from an increase in the living wage from £7.50 to £7.65 per hour, one of the pledges agreed by the Council when the 2014/15 budget was set earlier this year. The increase has benefited 165 members of staff.

Council Leader Gary Womersley said: "Despite the difficult decisions that the Council had to make in setting the budget, we want to recognise how important and valued our staff are by introducing this increase to the living wage.

"We are committed to delivering quality and efficient services to local people, and we hope that the living wage will help improve wellbeing and attendance at work, leading to the delivery of a high standard of Council services.

"Our workforce is the most important asset we've got. It's important that we recognise the contribution that they make through their work to the welfare of Clackmannanshire residents."

Of the 165 council staff that have benefited from the increase, the large proportion are women working in jobs such as carers and cleaners.
