Primary Schools Swimming Gala

Pupils from 15 primary schools took part recently in the annual Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Sports Association Swimming Gala at Alloa Leisure Bowl.
It was a great event with 125 children from 15 primary schools taking part, with an exciting atmosphere and great encouragement from spectators, school staff and pupils. Competitors swam through heats in individual events and relays to reach the finals and challenge for the winning places. All swimmers who reached the finals received points for their school, accumulation of these points determined the team trophy winning school.
The relay events were very exciting in the heats stage, with guest swimmers Luke Robertson and Ellie Ryan from Alloa Amateur Swimming Club racing alongside the relay teams. The pupils swam a 4x25m Freestyle relay with Luke and Ellie swimming a 100m Individual Medley with the boys teams and girls teams respectively.
The standard of swimming was high with some very close finishes from both club and non club swimmers. Winning the school trophy overall was St John's Primary School with 36 points, second place was Tillicoultry Primary School with 26 points and in joint third place with 24 points was Abercromby and Strathdevon Primary Schools.
The event was run by Clackmannanshire Council's Sports Development team with support from Alloa Swimming Club and Alloa Leisure Bowl, Luke Robertson, Ellie Ryan and Honor Robertson.
