Work has started to build 28 new family homes in Coalsnaughton, as part of a partnership between the Council, the Scottish Futures Trust and Hadden Construction.

The new development will consist of eight two-bedroom flats, eight three-bedroom and 12 four-bedroom houses at The Glen in Coalsnaughton.

The development is part of the Scottish Government's National Housing Trust initiative as operated by the Scottish Futures Trust. Tenants will be able to rent the properties at a rate between market and council rent levels, before having an opportunity to buy the house at some point in the future - between five and 10 years after they were built.

Housing Convenor Les Sharp said: "It is great to see work beginning on this new development, which demonstrates the Council's commitment to ensuring an increase in good quality housing for rent in Clackmannanshire. Having seen the quality of work carried out by Hadden on two previous projects, we know the standards in this new build will be extremely high and I look forward to the first families moving in next year."

Stephen Lynas, Business Development Manager of Hadden Construction said: "We are delighted to commence works on this innovative housing development in partnership with Clackmannanshire Council to provide much needed homes for mid-market rent and look forward to successfully delivering these modern family homes and apartments to assist in meeting the current affordable housing demand in Clackmannanshire."

The first of the new homes will be available for rent at 'mid market' rates from April 2014. Current council tenants and waiting list applicants will initially get priority for the houses.
