Clackmannanshire Council Bowls Forum is sponsoring its first ever Generation Triples Competition next month.

The event is part of Games for Scotland - a nationwide programme of events designed to inspire, motivate, engage and engender pride in the people of Scotland in the run-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The programme, managed by EventScotland, forms a key part of the Scottish Government's commitment to deliver a lasting legacy as a result of the Commonwealth Games coming to Scotland.
Taking place on Sunday 18th August at Alva Bowling Club, there will be two trophies up for grabs, to recognise the achievements of the junior players. One trophy will be handed over the to highest placed junior player on the day, to be taken back to their club, and the other will be presented to the highest placed junior who takes part in the Council-organised after-school bowling activities, to be taken back to their school.

Ten teams have already entered, but there are still places available for more players, with teams consisting of two adults and one under 18 player. The junior player plays second.
There will be medals and prizes for entrants and food and refreshment available throughout the day. The event starts at 11am and the entry fee is only £4.50 per triple

Councillor Ellen Forson said: "This event follows last month's trip to the Kelvingrove Greens in Glasgow by 72 local primary school pupils, when the youngsters got the chance to compete on the greens which will host the 2014 Commonwealth Games bowls events.

"The Clackmannanshire Bowls Forum is committed to encouraging the next generation of bowlers and the Generation Triples Competition very much supports that effort. We're lucky to have so many Scottish international bowlers coming from Clackmannanshire, which will also help to inspire our younger players."

If you wish to enter a team into the Generation Triples Competition contact the Council's Sports Development team on 01259 452350 or email sportsdevelopment@clacks.gov.uk.

Clackmannanshire Bowls Forum is looking for more clubs to join. If your interested in joining the partnership, please contact on 01259 450000.
