Ambitious environmental improvement proposals aimed at transforming Sauchie Main Street and published recently by the Council have been given an enthusiastic welcome.

The aim of this project is to improve the environment of Main Street, Sauchie, for the people who live and work in this area.

A drop in day took place during the day at Sauchie Hall last Friday and this Monday evening, 3rd June there will be a second opportunity for local residents to view the plans, get more information and make comments. The Open Day will take place at Sauchie Resource Centre between 6 pm and 8pm.

Last Friday's Drop-in day at Sauchie Hall attracted 50 residents throughout the day, plus representatives from community groups. Among the number of issues which were raised were access for the disabled and parking.

Council Leader, Councillor Gary Womersley said: "Residents were also able to view the artists impression drawings of the proposals, which were met with enthusiasm. Council officers were also on hand to answer a variety of questions about the project.

"A consultation programme about the proposals is underway, with views being sought from local residents and businesses. The consultation period runs until 10th June."

The proposals are the first under the umbrella of the Village and Small town Centre Initiative as agreed by the Council in the 2013/14 budget earlier this year. The proposals also fit with the vision identified in the Council's Corporate Priorities.

The Council has carried out an option appraisal of Main Street, Sauchie, looking at the housing areas, shops and landscaped areas.

Option appraisal is a technique for setting objectives, creating and reviewing options and analysing their relative costs and benefits. Option appraisal should help develop a value for money solution that meets the objectives of the project.

The appraisal identified that the planted areas and access to the shops in the Main Street are particularly in need of improvement.

The proposals aim to invigorate the Main Street with attractive and improved housing, shops and landscaped areas.
