Clackmannanshire Council is fully supporting the Alloa Park Residents' Association which is holding its annual litter pick this Saturday and is looking for volunteers to help out.

APRA exists to represent and promote the interests of all Alloa Park residents, working with Clackmannanshire Council, Scottish Government and all other interested parties.

Last year the group held a very successful litter pick and members are hoping this Saturday's will give the area another boost.

Volunteers are needed to come along and help out by picking up and binning the large amount of litter such as empty cans and wine bottles which have gathered. They will be meeting on the grass verge at 1 Alloa Park Drive at 1.30pm.

Enterprise and Environment Convener, Councillor Donald Balsillie, is calling on anyone who is free to give up some of their spare time this Saturday to go along to Alloa Park and lend a hand.

Councillor Balsillie said: "Last year 50 or so people turned up so I hope it will be just as successful this year. We are aware of litter and building rubble between the pumping station and the last few houses in Sandpiper Meadow so hope to also target that area as well as the cycle path towards Clackmannan and Alloa.

"I am delighted that the Council and APRA are working jointly in this venture to clean up the area. The more litter pickers that come along to help the better the results that can be achieved on the day. It is also hoped to litter pick the woods off of Forth Crescent as well. A litter pick of this scale is not just about individuals coming along, why not make it a family event."

Councillor Balsillie added: "Dropping litter and dumping waste is something which quite simply will not be tolerated by Clackmannanshire Council and our community wardens will be monitoring the situation and have the powers to hand out heavy fines to offenders who are caught."
