Grab and Go

Pupils at Alloa Academy will soon be getting the chance to beat the lunch queues and "Grab and Go."

The Council's catering service is introducing a new system, giving pupils the chance to do lunch more easily and quickly.

All pupils have to do is to pre-order their lunch at either breakfast or before the end of the morning break, pay for it, and their lunch will be ready and waiting in a bag to "Grab and Go."

To choose what they want in their bag for lunch all they have to do is check the board for that day's menu and place their order - it's as simple as that. The new system will be introduced from Monday 20th May.

Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson explained: "It can be soup, sandwiches, pizza, whatever is on the main menu for pupils eating in the dining room, will also be available for the pupils availing themselves of the new Grab and Go system.

"The whole idea is to be able to be more flexible and ensure that whether pupils are eating in the dining hall or have other things to do at lunchtime and are in a rush, that all young people get the opportunity to enjoy a good meal. Prices may vary depending what the pupil wants in their bag."

Head Teacher, Jacqui Ebsworth, said: " We know from our pupils that they don't like queuing for their lunch and this will give them a chance to plan what they eat, order it and have it ready and waiting for them. I think that this is a great service and I hope our pupils respond well to it. We are looking forward to seeing how well it goes."

A separate "Grab and Go" area will be set up in the docking station, where the bags will be distributed at lunchtime.

The service is being trialled in Alloa Academy, but it is fully expected to be a success with the pupils and extended into Lornshill and Alva Academies.
