Clackmannanshire Council and our partners have reacted swiftly to try and help staff affected by redundancy following the liquidation this week of the Scottish Coal Company Limited.

A Future Fair event will be held this Wednesday, 1st May at Skills Development Scotland's Alloa office at 39-43 Bank Street between 2pm and 4pm for workers from the forth valley area who are being made redundant.

Along with other partners offering support services, Clackmannanshire Works will be at the event, as will the Council's Money Advice Team.

Clackmannanshire Council and Skills Development Scotland have co-ordinated local response teams under the Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE) initiative, to provide tailored help and support to those people affected.

Thirteen of the 26 employees based at Scottish Coal's headquarters at Castlebridge are from Clackmannanshire.

These redundancies are part of a very large scale redundancy situation with other areas around the country affected too.

Council Leader Councillor Gary Womersley said: "This is very disappointing news, and our immediate concerns are for the workforce and their families. We have been working closely with the company and the coal sector over the past year, and have sought to provide all support that is within our power to do. We will do everything that can be practically done."
