Next month will see the introduction of a new and improved recycling service for the residents of Clackmannanshire with the start of a kerbside food waste collection service.
Information packs will be sent out to residents telling them everything they need to know about the new service, what they can expect, how to recycle food waste and why it is so important for every household to take part.
Convener of Enterprise and Environment, Councillor Donald Balsillie, said: "Clackmannanshire's residents can be proud of the positive response they have made to previous recycling challenges which has made us one of the top performing Councils in Scotland. However, we cannot stand still on our journey to a Zero Waste society."
This new, improved service will maximise environmental and economic benefits, creating new local jobs with Alloa Community Enterprises, our kerbside collector, as well as the food waste being turned into green energy and a valuable agricultural fertiliser for Scottish farmers.
Sometimes it can be difficult to adapt to changes, that is why the Council has provided residents with an information booklet to help understand that waste is a resource. The booklet clearly explains what to place in each bin, box or caddy.
Councillor Balsillie added: "Our research shows us that the green bins often contain waste that should be recycled. This costs the Council tens of thousands of pounds in additional landfill tax fees every year. We also ask you to make sure that only material that can be recycled is put in your blue bin.
"Contamination can ruin the other recyclables in your blue bin and can lead to the rejection of an entire load of recycling material that then has to go to landfill."
By using the recycling service Clackmannanshire residents are ensuring that resources are being targeted in the most effective way possible.
Councillor Balsillie went on: "These challenging times mean there are some difficult choices ahead. In the future and we will not collect the green bin until the recyclable material has been put in the correct bin."
The message is clear - let us recycle more for Clackmannanshire and keep the county top of the recycling league table.
