In a major crackdown Clackmannanshire Council's Community Warden Team and the Waste Services Team, with the support of the CCTV unit, will be monitoring the Alloa South and East area for fly tipping.

Evidence of anyone fly tipping will result in action against the offender. Any person who is subsequently reported to the Procurator Fiscal may be liable to a fine of up to £2,500.

Enterprise and Environment Convener, Councillor Donald Balsillie said: "It appears that some people think that waste left by the side of the road will be picked up by the Council - this is not the case. Any waste other than what is in a wheelie bin or blue box is regarded as fly tipping or illicit dumping and is an offence.

"It is a householder's responsibility to dispose of their waste in a proper manner. Do not leave it on the street, even next to a bin, expecting it to be picked up. I see this initiative as necessary to tackle dumb dumpers. It is an important pledge of this administration to take a no nonsense, no tolerance approach to fly tipping. This is one of many initiatives we will be taking to turn around the attitude of the minority who do not respect their local environment."

A number of designated Council officers including the Community Wardens and Central Scotland Police Officers have the power to issue a £50 Fixed Penalty Notice to anyone who illegally dumps waste.

Residents living in the area have been written to about this crackdown.

If you see someone fly tipping, contact the 24 hour, seven day a week dumb dumpers hotline on 08452 30 40 90 or 01259 450000.

Give the date, time and location of the incident, describe the waste and give an idea of the quantity and if possible, give a description of any vehicles involved. Leave the waste alone as it may be hazardous.
