The prestigious Clackmannanshire Awards evening will take place at Alloa Town Hall on Thursday, 21st February, the event to be hosted by Provost Tina Murphy.

An array of awards will be handed out on the evening, including the Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year.

And the event will also include the annual Clackmannanshire Sports Council Awards, with the judges having had very difficult decisions to make after a year of outstanding performances and achievements.

The nominees for the Senior Award, sponsored by the Alloa Advertiser, are: Hannah Eccles - (Equestrian Vaulting). She won silver in the first equestrian vaulting world cup and is ranked 4th in the world at senior Individual level; Steven Allan (Bowls). He was selected to represent Scotland in the forthcoming outdoor home internationals and is the current world indoor bowls council champion; and Meggan Dawson-Farrell (Athletics - wheelchair racing) who won the Glasgow women's 10k, great Scottish half marathon and Birmingham marathon and set new Scottish records in the 800m and 1500m.

The contenders for the Junior award, sponsored by the Wee County News, are: Brian Harper (Wrestling), a gold medallist in Latvia, Aspull and Helsinki at the 2012 Internationals;
Sarah McMahon (Tae Kwon Do), who won three gold medals at the British Championships and was overall champion and won gold for sparring at the World Championships; and Shannon Hawke (Wrestling), who won gold at the French international in 2012, and in the same year also won gold and the best female wrestler award at Aspull.

In the running for Team of the Year, sponsored by Russell and Aitken, are: Alva Swifts under-14s, winners of the Forth Valley Football Development Association League, winning all of their matches as well as two cup competitions; Rebecca Norval and Andrew McLachlan (Equestrian Vaulting), who made British and European history winning gold at the junior European Vaulting Championships and also won the Welsh, Scottish and British Championships; and Tullibody Wrestling Club, who won three gold medals and three silvers at the English open and also won six gold and four bronze medals at the British Championships.

Hoping to lift the Enid Barton Coach of the Year Award, are: John Eccles (Equestrian Vaulting). He has had World Cup 1st and 2nd with Joanne and Hannah Eccles and coached Rebecca Norval and Andrew McLachlan to European championships; Colin McLaren and Alan Harper (Wrestling), who have coached athletes to British, European and International success and had two athletes selected for the British Olympic youth team; and David Don (Football), who has worked tirelessly outwith his normal role to create a football group for young people who have left foster care or are homeless.

In the Triumph over Adversity category, sponsored by Machin Associates, the nominees are:
Jenna Wardrop (Swimming), who won gold in the 25m freestyle at the national swimming competition and finished 1st in the Forth Valley Disability Sport regional swimming championships; Stephen Donaldson (Boccia), who will be competing in the 2013 Special Olympics in Bath. He also won a gold medal at the 2009 Special Olympics in Boccia; Claire Bridges (Swimming), who won gold at the national junior swimming championships in the 50m breaststroke; and Claire Robertson (Swimming), who was selected to represent the Forth Valley swim squad at the 2013 Special Olympics.

The contenders for School Team of the Year and hoping to win the Judy Collier Trophy are:
Alva Academy under-13 football team - Scottish Cashback 7s national winners and Scottish schools FA under 13s plate winners; Alva Academy Gymnastic Team. Both their level one and level two teams won the Clackmannanshire Schools gymnastic competition; Alva Academy Cross Country Team. They won the school shield in the Clackmannanshire Secondary school cross country event winning six gold, six silvers and nine bronze medals; and Alva Primary seven girls cross country team. In the cross country league championships they finished 1st with individuals finishing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. Seven of their runners have qualified for the Forth Valley Championships.

In the Services to Sport section, sponsored by SALSC, the nominees are: Colin Blake (Bowling), a member of Alloa East End Bowling Club who runs youth groups for the club area. He gives a lot of his time to help youngsters and adults with physical and sensory learning disabilities enjoy bowls; Shona Malcolm (Athletics). She has officiated in athletics for 32 years. She has coached athletes, both able bodied and with disabilities, for over 20 years; and Colin McLaren and Alan Harper (Wrestling), who have worked for the community in sport on a voluntary basis for most of their adult lives. They provide guidance, support, encouragement and discipline to many youngsters.

Nominated for Young Leader/Volunteer, sponsored by Steven Campbell, are: Ashley Robertson of Alloa Academy. She is a young ambassador at Alloa Academy and volunteers at sports events at school. She also runs the after school badminton club at Alloa Academy;
Meg Bannerman of Alva Academy, who volunteers at summer programmes and after school clubs. She helped plan, organise and run a sports festival for P4s at Alva Primary; Rebecca Bisset of Alloa Academy. She is a young ambassador at Alloa Academy who gives up her time each week to train the Alloa Academy gymnastic team; and Ben King, who constantly asks to help at sports events. He volunteers his time at the sports development badminton club each week helping the coaches deliver sessions to the children.

There will also be a lifetime contribution to sport award taking place on the evening, sponsored by Tina Murphy.
