A Council service has been praised for a top all round performance during the second quarter of the year after a report was tabled before councillors yesterday (Thursday).

Among the many plaudits, Councillors on the Enterprise and Environment Committee were told that over 4000 responses had been received during the Leisure and Sports Strategy public consultation, and are currently being analysed.

In addition during the October schools break Education and Facilities Management held Active Autumn, a pilot activity week for primary and secondary pupils at Lornshill Academy which proved to be a resounding success with over 100 young people attending on a daily basis enjoying taster sessions in different sports and activities.

Also during the second quarter of 2012/13 there has been significant activity in the housing capital improvement programmes with 150 bathrooms completed and 25 per week due for completion from now until the end of the financial year. Over 600 central heating systems have also been completed with the benefit of the Community Energy Savings Programme funding and a further 800 planned by the end of the year.

In particular, the Carseview, Tullibody, thermal cladding contract is well underway to insulate and upgrade central heating to 220 houses.

Convener of the Enterprise and Environment Committee, Councillor Donald Balsillie, said: "Facilities Management are to be congratulated on their efforts. Among the important projects being progressed are:

- New build Council house developments are on site at the former Dalmore Centre, Alva and The Orchard in Tullibody. These will be the first new build Council properties in Clackmannanshire for over 20 years and are scheduled to be complete by Christmas."

- Work is well underway on the project to move Council services from Greenfield and Lime Tree House to Kilncraigs. It is on budget and scheduled for completion in the summer of 2013.

- The Alloa Gymnastics Club move to new premises is scheduled for November allowing the full refurbishment of the Speirs Centre starting in the New Year .

- Statutory pre-planning consultation on the new primary school for Alloa West began in September with full planning submissions planned for Christmas and work starting on site in March / April.

- Work is nearing completion on the new Tillicoultry community facility which is due to officially open on 1st December.

- Clackmannanshire Council's response to requests for repairs by housing tenants maintained a high level of performance in the second quarter with 95.9% delivered within priority timescales.

Facilities Management were also praised for the way they responded to the flash flood at Menstrie House when all residents had to be evacuated as a result of the burn overflowing.

Co-ordination with Social Services on the night of the flood and seven day a week working resulted in all residents being re-accommodated within three weeks with the facility having new kitchens, decoration and floor coverings.
