Fishcross Primary School in Clackmannanshire have been awarded the highly sought after Level 3 Health Accreditation.

A key area of Curriculum for Excellence in Scottish Schools, the Accreditation involves children's learning in health and wellbeing.

The school was awarded the certificate this week after evidence was received of the children at the school having gained a full knowledge and understanding which they need now and in the future to allow them to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

Council Leader of Clackmannanshire Council, Councillor Gary Womersley, said: "This is re-enforced in our vision for Clackmannanshire's children that every young person has the best possible start in life and every child achieves their potential.

"This Level 3 Accreditation is a great achievement for Fishcross and is an indication of the commitment and hard work of all the members of staff at Fishcross, where children are put at the centre. Special mention should also go to Lesley Murrie, who lead this development in the school."

To achieve Level 3 Health Accreditation Fishcross Primary had to excel at developing the health and wellbeing of all children, and implementing imaginative approaches to health and wellbeing.

Head Teacher Linda Coutts said: "At Fishcross Primary our imaginative approaches to delivering health and wellbeing have included the creation of a Fishcross Fine Dining Room, where children who follow a lunch-charter can dine in our Fishcross Restaurant and are waited on by older pupils.

"We have also created a Fishcross Yellow Pages where children offer their skills to other pupils in school.

"Pupils have also created a Pupil Improvement Plan. In addition the Pupil Council have identified an area of school they would like to improve.

"This year, the Pupil Council focussed on improving new Golden Time Activities. We have also further embedded partnerships with parents, involving them more in their child's leaning by coming to join us in activities during Health Week.

"They will also be coming along to view our homework challenges each term, enjoy a French breakfast later this session with P6/7 and also the chance to be involved in the School Improvement Plan."
