Help Shape the Future of Housing

A programme of consultation which will shape the future of housing in Clackmannanshire is underway.

Our draft Housing Strategy explains the challenges that we face and sets out the priorities for the next five years.

The aim of the Strategy is to ensure that the housing available is of good quality, affordable and in safe and pleasant neighbourhoods. It is also essential that people can get support, where needed, to enable them to live independently in their own homes.

To help us complete our consultation process and produce a plan for local housing for the next five years we need to know what local residents think.

We have carried out research and consulted with key partners in order to draft our strategy and these are some of our key findings:

  • Fewer new houses are being built
  • Fewer social rented properties are available for people to rent
  • There are more older people who need suitable accommodation
  • Young people are finding it difficult to get on the housing ladder
  • Welfare reform changes will affect people's ability to afford rented accommodation
  • Energy prices are going up, which means more people are struggling to pay their bills
  • Some of our neighbourhoods are in need of enhancement

Head of Community and Regulatory Services, John Gillespie, said: "These are just some of the issues which may affect local residents and we want our strategy to take account of as many people's views as possible. There are a number of ways you can let us know what you think about the future of housing in Clackmannanshire."

An online questionnaire is available on our Housing Strategy Consultation Draft web page, or you can fill in the questionnaire contained in the next edition of View which will be dropping through letterboxes from 4th June onwards.

We will also be holding a range of local consultation events which will be publicised in the near future.

The draft strategy is available on ClacksWeb or you can request a copy by calling 450000.

The deadline for responses is 29th June. All responses are anonymous and will help shape the final strategy.
