More than 100 bags of litter were filled by volunteers as Clackmannanshire Council got fully behind the National Spring Clean.

The event organised by leading environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful was run in partnership with Zero Waste Scotland.

The bold bid to tackle the litter which is one of the most common problems affecting our neighbourhoods shows the Council is fully committed to supporting local groups clean up their communities. The Council supported the volunteers by providing litter pickers, bin bags, gloves and picked up the waste after the event.

Stephen Crawford, Head of Facilities Management, said: "The litter problem is not going to change overnight but community action can make a difference. Every resident in the county can play their part in keeping our community litter free and everyone has a responsibility to ensure Clackmannanshire is as beautiful as possible."

The Spring Clean campaign aims to get its message across to individuals, businesses and youth groups who want to get together to clean up Clackmannanshire....

Mr Crawford added: "The commitment of each volunteer is to be commended and I would urge people and communities across Clackmannanshire to get involved to help keep our county beautiful. I would be pleased to provide equipment at any time to any groups to help them clean up their areas. The campaign runs over two months, but the clean-up is on going and we are always here to lend our support.

National Spring Clean is a fun, free way to clean up, whether that is a hillside, local park or your own street.

Clean-ups organised within Clackmannanshire started in late March with pupils from Alloa
Academy clearing up the rubbish around their school. Since then Alva Beaver Scouts have
been busy with their own Spring Clean event and a very successful litter pick took place on Sunday, 22nd April by the Alloa Park Residents' Association.

Park Primary School, Alloa, was the venue on 25th April for a clean-up event organised by the Primary Schools' Support Service and the following weekend it was the turn of the residents of Tullibody together with pupils from St Bernadette's Primary who got together to clear up the area round Delph Pond.
