Five local businesses, set up with the help of SIP into Businesses (SIB), have reached a trading milestone - 18 months of self employment.

Now all 5 businesses are set to receive an award at the Client Achiever Awards 2003 - the first award ceremony of its type ever held in the Wee County.

SIP into Business is a ground breaking project, set up in 2000, to make self employment a reality for residents of Alloa South and East.

Council Leader Keith Brown said: "All of the businesses received assistance from SIP into Business including market research, writing up individual business plans and aftercare support comprising free book-keeping and monthly management accounts.

"In addition they all received funding to help them through their first year of trading but now they are self sufficient and able to stand alone. As the first 6 clients to start up and run their own businesses, and reach the 18 month milestone, it is appropriate that we acknowledge what they have accomplished in such a short time.

"SIB is a unique local resource and I would urge anyone interested in setting up a business to drop in for excellent advice and support."

SIB is funded by Clackmannanshire Council, Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley, the Social Inclusion Partnership and European Objective 2.
