Payment books for council tax and rent could soon become a thing of the past thanks to a new online payment facility coming soon to Clacksweb.

The award winning website is constantly evolving and now provides a wealth of council and community information combined with a range of online services.

Now a council tax and rent payment facility - available 24 /7 - are the latest in a long line of online services available soon on www.clacksweb.org.uk.

Council Leader Keith Brown said: "We are now living in the 21st century in a time when technological advance is part and parcel of everyday life. As a council we must harness new technology to provide our customers with modern, accessible and efficient services.

"Clacksweb, the Council's website, developed as part of the Modernising Government Agenda is just one way of moving towards online service delivery and of course a way of promoting the area to a world wide audience. Making payments online from the comfort of your own home, workplace or local library is just the beginning - watch this space."

In the coming months an online payment facility for Council Tax will be tested with the members of the E-Citizen project. The E-Citizen project, which put PCs into people's homes for a 2 year period to test what services people want the Council to deliver to them electronically, is used to try out new services before they go 'live'. The service should be live by April 2003 and if successful will be followed shortly by a Rents payment facility.

Secure Trading - an online card processing service - has been contracted to provide a secure online environment for customers.

The Council's Environmental Service has developed a web based reporting system on Clacksweb so local people can report a number of issues including instances of abandoned cars, noise and pest problems online.

The new Clackmannanshire Business Directory - a comprehensive listing of all local businesses and a first for the area, benefit fraud reporting and job application packs are all available on Clacksweb.
