Clackmannanshire Council has developed an information pack for traders who sell age restricted products such as tobacco, spray paints, DVDs and fireworks. The aim of the pack, called 'Good practice Guidelines', is to provide traders with information to train their staff.

Councillor Eddie Carrick, portfolio holder for sustainability, said, "Clackmannanshire Council's trading standards team have been proactive in producing this pack, which will make traders' obligations clear. Selling tobacco or other age restricted goods to young people is a crime, and we want to make sure everyone knows what their responsibilities are. I'm sure the traders of Clackmannanshire will welcome this guidance."

All traders should have now received their pack. If you have not, or if you want more information or assistance, then please contact Lindsay McNeil on 0845 277 7000 or mcneill@stirling.gov.uk

Trading Standards are responsible for the enforcement of legislation that prohibits the sale of certain age-restricted products to people under the legal age. Test purchasing exercises are regularly carried out with action taken against traders who sell to the under-age customers
