Young people and retailers are being urged to use the Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) when buying and selling age-restricted products including tobacco, spray paints, DVDs and fireworks.

Stirling and Clackmannanshire Trading Standards Service have developed an information pack designed for traders who sell age-restricted products. The aim of the pack is to provide traders with information and guidance that they can then use to train staff members.

The pack shows clear pictures of the PASS accepted cards that are used, especially the National Entitlement Young Scot Card which bears the PASS hologram. These cards can be applied for at Youth Services on 01786 432211, or young people can pop into the new Young Peoples, Information Station Shop in Stirling Arcade.

All traders should have now received their pack however if they have not then or wish further information then they should contact Lindsay McNeil on 0845 277 7000 or mcneill@stirling.gov.uk .

Trading Standards are responsible for the enforcement of legislation that prohibits the sale of certain age-restricted products to people under the legal age. Test purchasing exercises are regularly carried out with action taken against traders who sell to under-age customers.
